corrupted registry entries on user profile after malware removal
Running Windows 7 x64
I had a recent infection with the Windows 7 Security Center virus and used the BleepingComputer.com article to remove the malware. Part of the process involved running MalwareBytes to finally delete the infectious file. Once removed I deleted all the system restore points and then ran CCleaner to find/fix/remove stray files and registry entries.
Problem now is on my wife's user profile (limited) Windows Explorer and Firefox will not launch. When I double click on either of these icons I get the "Open With..." prompt asking to choose a program you want to use to open the file.
My profile (admin) and the 'kids' profile (limited) both operate normally.
I ran the registry backup created with CCleaner hoping that would reverse any valid entries that got deleted but the problem still exists and unfortunately there's no way to recover the System Restore points.
It's not as simple as using the Open With option and browsing to the Explorer.exe or Firefox.exe either (tried that of course).
I have a feeling my only option is to delete the Wifes' User Account and create a new one but she's got a lot of stuff tied to that account (buisness related) and I need to preserve EVERYTHING... including settings.
Any ideas how to go about either fixing the affected programs or transferring files and settings from the broken account to a new user account?
