    Mouse Lag Issue


    hello sirs,

    sorry if this is a repost, but I could not find any answers to my problem other than mouser driver topics.

    I am running W7 x64 on my laptop.
    The hardware is; i5 M460 processor, ati hd5650 gpu and 8gigs of ram. also 7200-rpm hdd.

    While I am doing some "heavy" work on my laptop such as opening a raw image (NEF) file (in PS CS5 or Faststone), or applying sharpening or noise reduction (in PS CS5), or starting iTunes, my mouse lags like I am playing a video game at 10 fps. cursor moves and clicks are all delayed. when such process is complete my mouse goes back to normal. Generally it seems like when the system is "strained" the mouse lags.

    I did not experience such problem until recently. For some reasons I had to format/reinstall my Windows (the same Windows) several times, but mouse lags are still there. No issues in CPU or GPU performance (at least not that I am aware of), but these lags has gotten sort of annoying.

    I have been experiencing this problem with different mouses.

    Can you please help me how to solve this?

    it could just be your laptop struggling with tasks, as working with RAW images is CPU, GPU and RAM intensive.

    After the reinstall, new or out of date drivers could be more of a resource hog than your previous set of drivers, and or and bloat where thats installed if you used an OEM or Recovery disk to perform the format.

    Formatting windows is never a fix all solution, especially if you just install all the same drivers and programs.

    I suggest downloading all the latest drivers from your laptops manufacturers website, and try from there.

    Thank you sir, true that I have formatted/reinstalled my Windows over an OEM recovery part. But the problem is, I have always been using the same OEM part, and after, the same drivers (Since Sony has not updated any more drivers for ATI and my Intel chipset). For a long time after purchase I did not see any mouse lagging problems with these setup, through various formats and reinstalls. Clearly somewhere something glitched.

    And I am not a big fan of drivers that are not published by the laptop manufacturer. :)

    The fact that these symptoms are recurring after a windows format suggest that its probably not a windows fault, and or if all the same drivers are used as before.

    Go ahead and download Memtest, and run it on your ram, and underlying RAM fault could cause a system to slow down.

    I would have suggested that a recent photoshop update could just be causing the issue, but since you say itunes also causes the same issue id go ahead and ignore this sentence

    Here's the result for Memtest. It went on testing after it reached 100% and the below "Pass complete" message appeared, but I didn't have time, so exit.

    I kept having the same issue for months and tried many of the suggestions, changed 3 mice, pc settings etc. Finally i purchased for 7.99 a Microsoft optical mice usb with ps2 option. Worked immediately!! I didnt even need the ps2 port. Seems windows 7 needs a compatible mouse to function at optimal. I've never experienced this with any other OS upgrades. But oh well for the 7.99 it was well worth the cost.

    Their are many brands of mice that can be used and I have tired a few but always found Microsoft's to work the best. Microsoft likes Microsoft. I use 3 BluTooth Microsoft keyboards and mice now with never a problem. You are using a lot of heavy work load programs but I would think that other things would slow down also not just the mouse. Before buying a new mouse I would try to borrow some one else and try it.
    Please note: According to your specs you are asking that computer to do a lot more than it was designed for and that could also cause your problems.

    oh sorry, that is my previous laptop. forgot to upgrade the information in my profile here. the one I am talking about is;

    i5 M460 Processor
    Windows 7 x64 Home Premium
    8GiB Ram
    Ati HD5650 Gpu.

    As to the Microsoft mouse subject, I saw the same problem with the "Microsoft Basic Optical Mouse (the previous, slightly larger version)". So I do not think the brand is a problem, but nevertheless I might try another Microsoft mouse when I get the chance.

    Related to the problem, I am now completely sure that the problem is not in just PS or iTunes. I experience cursor lag whenever the system is "stressed". For example when I start my web browser with the previous session, which has 7-8 tabs being opened at the same time, the cursor lag is clearly -and annoyingly- visible and I cannot control the cursor properly until all the tabs are rendered enough to "unstress" the system.

    Mouse lag problem


    I have the problem internittantly, usually only for a fraction of a second. Doesn't seem to be when the PC i stressed and I am running a Core i7 with 9Gb memory so I don't think that is the cause. It is happening occasionally today, but will probably disappear after a re-boot.
