Why doesn't Windows search find custom.dic?

I have two dictionary files on my hard drive, both in C\users\kathy\application data\roaming\microsoft\proof folder. Custom.dic and kathy.dic. I can only get search to find these by doing a custom search. Even then it finds these files everywhere BUT my C drive first, finally finding them on my C drive last. It goes through several mapped network drives and my external drive first and then finally shows these files last. How can I get these indexed so they just show up on a normal search where I press the windows key and type "custom.dic"? Second question is why aren't they found in the first place? Are dictionary files something special like system files that aren't normally searched for? Thanks - I've spent several hours reading on line and in a large book to figure this out. I'm new to Windows 7 but trying to learn.

I'll answer myself before anyone wastes time doing so - I discovered the indexing properties section and was able to redefine what was being searched. It was "excepting" application data, and once I changed that and waited for the indexing process to finish, my search for both the dictionary files is now nearly instant like most of the stuff I search for.
