Although I agree with your policy of using the simple command line tools "like Microsoft" this makes interesting reading ...

I DLd EasyBCD after first install of RC-7100, all new to me at the time.
He said that my 'Boot sector' was not Vista-compatible, and said that it couldn't install until he 'fixed' it.

So I shut him down and deleted the files. It was all very easy.

I wouldn't be at all suprised if a familiar GUI made it's way into windows 8 for editing the BCD
Could be, but the other side of the coin is that the MS "Support Engineers" might lose money, if it worked well.
'Boot problems' should be 'good' for them.
OTOH, lotsa people could get into real trouble with this particular 'power-user' tool.
I'm sure MS will 'do the numbers' before deciding.

The BCD-store was 'new' with Vista, and they didn't put a GUI in the step-up to Win 7.
Just for 'the hell of it', I'd bet on no GUI in Windows 8... :)

Thanks for the post!
"Debugging the Windows Kernel" seems a bit deceptive here.
I'm sure they mean making a debug 'option' in the BCD-store.
