Good to hear of a solution,
but post is somewhat cryptic...

"Sounds-like":

1. He changed the BIOS to boot from (disk) CD/DVD (maybe F2 after power-on).

2. Inserted W7 (disk) DVD

3. Booted from W7 (disk) DVD and reinstalled Win 7.

I don't think his HDD (disk) was involved here at all.

I hope he fares well with Vista, if that's what he chooses...

Well additonal drivers. For example i have a built in fingerprint reader, camera and some volume pad, they wouldnt work after i upgraded to vista, even if i installed the software, it was to much hassle to be fair?

Well, that is the manufacturers fault, not Windows. Just so you are aware.

You may be able to look on the manufacturers website to find drivers, or contact them directly to see if that have them.

Hi all, I have just switched my computer on and all goes well up to the screen that says Starting Windows with the Microsoft logo on. But thats as far as it will go then I have to switch it off via the button on the tower!! I cant go anywhere from that screen,any ideas.........Many thanks Pete.

Since doing a system reset, I have been getting problems when booting. Whenever I boot the windows startup animation stops until I press enter. Then it spots again for a couple minutes until I press enter. I tried clean boot and safe mode which did not help. Did a system scan and got nothing....
