Adding unrecognized image files format to windows explorer preview

I use a program called SnagIt to capture screenshots, the program has a native file format called SNAG, this is similar to what a PSD is to Photoshop. Is there any way to setup Windows explorer to recognize this file format is being an image file (similar to a JPEG or GIF)?

In Windows explorer you can see a thumbnail preview of these types of images, I'd like to have explorer do the same for the SNAG file format. Is this possible?

So it'll preview SNAG files like this:

What version of SnagIt are you using?? There is usually an 'Output Options' tab that will allow you to change the default file type, to jpeg for example.

hi tehprince, and welcome to sevenforums,

this would only be possible if snagit have released some sort of plug-in for windows explorer, which they haven't.

as you were told on the techsmith forum, the snag format is proprietary and as such only they know how to open or display snag images. even microsoft doesn't know how snag files are constructed, so they can't be shown in explorer.

Snagit vs. Win 7 Snipping Tool

I have always used The resident Snipping Tool in Windows 7 to capture Screenshots and have had great results and it comes with the OS!
    Please check it out

This is strange, I am able to see my SnagIt screen captures in the File Explorer window on my laptop & they are in .SNAGX format, but I am not able to see the screen captures on my desktop, which are also in .SNAGX format... I have not been able to figure out why on the laptop yet...
