I would not use a bloated AV that you have to pay for, as a free lightweight one like Microsoft Security Essentials or Avast gives adequate protections with best performance.

Just be sure to back up your files if you Restore to an earlier time to try to get before the problems. This is a very good way to solve these kinds of problems.

Avast is fine, as is MSE. MucAfee is the worst possible AV.

It's unclear what you're referring to exactly. Are you proposing to do a System Restore
to a Restore Point created earlier, to try to get before the problem.

Or are you referring to Full Factory Recovery (not Restore) which is run from Win7, using a hotkey at boot or Recovery Disks? This restores the computer to new condition as it came from factory, but with all of the bloatware and useless factory utilties that have better versions built into Win7 - so many tech enthusiasts prefer clean Reinstalling Windows 7 with the Product key on COA sticker to get a leaner install for better performance.

Either way you should make your factory Recovery Disks so you have a backup method if needed, and if you need help running Full Factory Recovery let us know your make and model.

Do you know how to run Recovery or have done it before? What is your make/model if you need the instructions? I would run it from Win7 or using the hotkey at boot, but have the disks as a backup.

Back up your files now and gather your program installers.

MucAfee is the worst thing you can impose upon Win7. We solve problems here all the time by having users uninstall it, which is how it runs best.

I couldn't agree more with Greg that McAfee is amongst the worst A-V Softwares and the free version of Avast A-V is about the best thing that has happened in a long time for Home Users.

It is not a question of whether you have had trouble with McAfee or not, it is a question of what is good and what is bad.

IF i do the full restore would it solve the problem. If it doesn't then i guess i have to figure out another way to fix my computer

Yes it should solve your performance problems to Factory Recover.

However you might be able to solve these problems easier by a Repair Install.

You got your files back via System Restore, correct? So it is some performance problems that you are still trying to solve? Do you know what might have caused these?
