I'm glad to know that others have had issues with Windows updates. I guess that is exactly what it is, Last night at 3am when I guess the updates I lost with the system restore came throuugh again, my pexact problem came back. I 'm laying there asleep when I here my machine restart. I turn on my monitor and see that Windows id updating. Sure enough, as soon as it was done I tried to grab and drag an icon and the same thing happened.

    REALLY!?!?!

Well, I am going to finaish sleeping, then I have some work until later in the afternoon, then I will be back trying to figure it out, so maybe by later tonight I will have something to report. Thanks for telling me about the Windows update issues, that confirms my fears. (I think)

And here we go one more time...

Again, I just want to thank everybody. This has been an irritating issue, and in a way it will remain so. So last night the auto updates seemed to cause the trouble after it had (I thought) gone away. I figure it has to be related to these Windows updates somehow. I thought that maybe the answer was to get rid of the update that caused the problem, so that was going to be the goal for today. In order to make sure I did a complete job, I checked to see if there were an updates still pending so I could have them all up to date and start from there. As it was, there were a couple new ones waiting, so I went ahead and loaded up everything (Except IE9) and restarted.

And now the problem is gone again.

I am giving up. I hope it will stay fixed, but if not, I think I will try to find a way to live with it! You have all been very helpful. If I find anything out about this, I will come back to this thread and post the info.

    Have a good one everybody.

Maybe your connection is "noisy" (i.e. NIC, cabling, router, line or ISP).
I wonder if there is an easy way to check the error rate on a network connection?

Most routers can log that information...

I should have been more specific.
I wonder if there is an easy way to check the error rate, in all the sections/segments, of your connection to a site?

    If the errors are caused:

    • By your equipment, you could replace it.
    • By a bad connection to your ISP, you could complain to someone (e.g. Telco).
    • Before they reach the ISP, the ISP could complain to their provider.

    Everything does that?
Have you tried reinstalling your graphics card driver?
