Win7 Ulti Gags on cut/paste of tiny html file?? WHY?

this is one of those things that makes me pine for XPP ....
I do not know what folder or group to post this in so if the Mod knows and can move there, so be it.

My Ultimate x64 rig - clean and fast for the most part: All I needed to do was cut a very small 153kb *.htm file and paste it to a different folder. should have been instantaneous, right? Wrong!
The system looked for all the world like it was going to hang Explorer!
the dialogue box that normally you would see on mass moves of many large files pops up, and hangs on "calculating......" interminably while I sat there just stunned.
there was NOTHING running on the system - not even a browser.
Finally after about 2 full minutes, it did the job

what on earth causes this?? How would i go about diagnosing?

In my view, it's a definite bug with Windows 7.

The system will try and assign a folder type based on content such as video, pictures or music, and then tries to extract content-based data every time the folder is opened.

You could try this workaround: Right-click one of your folders in Windows Explorer and choose Properties. Click the Customize tab. Optimize the folder for Documents from the drop-down list and check Apply This Template to Sub-Folders. Apply and OK to finish.

I can't guarantee it'll solve your problem, but it's worth a try.

brilliant!
you are right - it was my Video folder I needed to Paste to.
so, from MS dev perspective, its not a 'problem' eh?
I'm glad it didn't fail altogether and lose the file

Well, there's a surprise.

I'm glad it worked for you and thanks for the update.

This solution may well help others in the same predicament.
