How do I change default double click action for CD's, DVD's and BD's

    > Currently, if I double-click a drive containing a disc, for example, a game, rather than opening the drive's folder, it runs the associated autorun file contained on the media.

    > I've already changed the default actions when inserting a disc, but now I need to change the default actions when double clicking the drive's icon.

    > Before you point me onto gpedit, you'd want to know I'm running Home Basic (which is a pain to tweak at all, I know). Which registry entry do I need to change for that default action - on all users, if possible?

You can set it from your folder options.

Start Windows Explorer, highlight any folder and click Organize.

Click Folder and search options then check Single click to open an item (point to select).

Apply and OK out of the Options dialog box.

    > But that would also change how I open any file on explorer. I only want to fix the DVD/CD/BD drives. And IMO, single-click to navigate on explorer isn't my type.

    > Believe me... I searched Google. All I found were solutions using the Group Policy Editor.

    Correct Seavixen

Seavixen is correct. Essentially you want a fuction that does not exist. Learn to adapt to the reality of the facts and use it as everyone else does. You'll drive your self nuts looking for an answer when it's already been given. Truly. Seavixen's anser is exactly right but now you want something else.

Be satisfied with haveing the right answer as it is that. Have you not proven just that through exhaustive searching?

    > I'd gladly accept that, if it wasn't for the fact that on my old laptop, which was Windows 7 Home Premium (which also does not have GPEdit), somehow I used a registry entry tweak that did the trick. Problem is... My laptop is dead, so I have no way to check its registry for the actual fix.

Actually there is another way that could be checked and sometime more appropriate:

I noticed that the default (bold text) action changed, when I went to Computer/Manage/Disk Management and I changed the drive letter of the media in question, to another unused letter and the default action changed back to the standard one 'Open'.
So there is another key that can be used to reset the default action of Drives/Removable Media/Mount Points and it is:
    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints2\X

Where X is the drive letter where you want the default action to change.
