Transferring files from external hard disk

I have built a new pc. I have my OS on a SSD drive(C) and media files on a 500gb Seagate hard disk (D). I have mp3 files backed up on an external hard drive . I coonected this hard drive via USB to my new pc. Opened up the music folder and tried to drag and drop the fiels to drive D.Quite a few transferred before I got the following message
'You'll need administrator permission to perform this action' clicking on continue brings up another pop-up box;
'You require permisssion from the computer's administrator to make changes to this folder'
I can't then proceed any further
Anyone got any ideas

Curious.....
Why don't you drag and drop the Folder instead of laboriously transferring individual files ?

Tried that but it transferred folders and subfolders but not the files in the subfoilder

Strange. I have Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit as well.
I just went to my ext. hard drive, drag my pictures folder which has sub-folders and sub-sub-folders ( total 247 MB ) back to my Pictures folder in my Computer.
I did not lose anything. All there.

Yes very strange any other folder I could just drag accross it just affects my mp3 files. I've foumd a way around it but it means changing permissions on each folder

I hate to say this..... something is NOT right with your computer.

I just went to my music folder which is stored in my ext. hard drive.
There are 1843 items, 5.06 GB.
Under the music folder, there are sub-folders of individual singers, instruments etc. I also have a wav format sub-folder which has , you guess it, sub-folders of indv. singers and instruments.
I drag the entire folder to my Music Folder in my computer. No sweat.

Yeah I 'm thinking the same hey ho
