    How to delete the "Windows" folder from external disk?


    I took the 500GB disk from my dead notebook and decided to keep old data within it as an external storage in a USB case.

    The drive was bootable as Win7 pro x64, but now I want to remove all system folders from it, keeping all backups and private data untouched, but I need special rights for most of the folders/files inside Windows folder: it requests for TrustedInstaller privileges.

    I'm using a Win7 enterprise 32bit, logged in as a AD domain user that is also on local Administrators group. I tried taking ownership, but it failed.

    How can I remove those unused system folders?

    Reboot into "recovery environment" and enter "command prompt".
    find the right driveletter:
    DIR C:\
    DIR D:\
    etc

    RMDIR /S X:\Windows
    replace X with right driveletter

Hi I’ve recently installed Win 7 over Vista. It was a clean install as I couldn’t get the upgrade method to work. I now find I have Windows folder (9.97Gb) and a Windows Old folder (136 Gb). Can I just delete the Windows old folder? I’m never going back to Vista so that’s not an issue here....
Hello, I was just checking my new disk in Disk Management, and I was about to extend the volume I already had, when I miss clicked and deleted the whole volume. After some research it seems that I can recover it, because the data isn't lost yet, but I didn't find any solutions for win7 yet....
