    I went to:

    control panel

    system and security

    find and fix problems

    check for performance issues

    system configuration

    general tab

    then i selected diagnostic startup

Hello Windows dummy, and welcome to Seven Forums.

See if you may be able to run msconfig again to select Normal startup as in step 2 of OPTION TWO below.

    Safe Mode

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Whew......thanks Shawn. I'm back on my machine & everything seems to be working. Thanks loads. What could be making my machine so slow? It take forever for me to use the internet & then everything works fine.

    Thanks again.

It could be any number of things.

Start by looking at Task Manager when it is slow--particularly look at processes, RAM usage, and CPU usage.

Is it slow to boot? Slow only when going to web sites? Slow for most tasks?

You're most welcome. I'm happy to hear it's back into normal mode. :)

It could be a number of different reasons why that could happen. I would recommend to do a full scan of your system with MalwareBytes free just to help make sure that your system is clean.

Afterwards, you might create a new thread with all details about the internet or network issue in the Network & Sharing for more specific help with it.

How slow is slow ? You have to connect to your network b4 you can get out. Look at the small network icon and watch what it does and time it to when it connects.

Slow is about 1 minute from log in to internet compared to my gateway that is about 20 seconds. The sony was about the same until I replaced the hdd. The only thing I can think of is when I reinstalled windows 7 from the rcovery disc I shut the lid during installation & it locked the computer so the only thing I could do was start the istallation again with the recovery discs. I wonder if windows was some how installed twice & is loading twice at startup? Oh my wireless network is running fine.

In the start menu internet explorer is listed twice once as internet explorer (64 bit) & once again as internet explorer. Normal?
