The only program that works on my pc is IE.

I was at a video site watching videos of tv shows. Without warning my PC restarts itself. When it came back up I discovered the only program I am able to run is Internet explorer. nothing else works. I would appreciate any help with this problem.

    Thank You

go to Command Prompt and run <sfc /scannow>

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

post back with what it finds.

When I tried to run the program I get "you must be an administrator running a console session in order to use the sfc utility".

You need to open an 'elevated cmd prompt'

Open all programmes > accessories > right click on command prompt and 'run as admin' then run the 'sfc' command.

Run a full scan with Malwarebytes from Safe Mode if necessary.

If SFC balks then run it from System Recovery Options Command Line: SFC -SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot

I suggest a System Restore to a time before this issue. I also suggest you not go back to that video site. This is a prime example of what a "video site for watching tv shows" can offer.

Just in case: Windows 7 fails to boot

Losing that much functionality may need to be treated the same.

    Results from sfc /SCANNOW

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

As for system restore I ran it twice. Once to roll back from last week. The problem was still present. The second time I rolled back a month and the problem was still there.

I am unable to run any programs except IE. I tried several times.

I have Norton installed on my pc. I can not figure out why it did not detect it.
