Typing Lag in Windows 7 applications

Frequently--and growing more frequent--I get a lag in typing in Windows 7 for any application involving typing (browsers, Office, email....anything). At first nothing happens, and then everything I tried to type shows up several seconds later, sometimes as long as 20 or 30 seconds later, though usually with the first few letters missing. There is no constant lag, i.e., after the initial problem, things work fine for minutes, hours, even days, and then it will do it again some time down the road. It seems fairly random. It's not every time I start any particular application, and sometimes it will happen several times within an hour while other times it will go days.

My PC is a desktop with logitech wireless keyboard and mouse, so this is not a laptop touchpad problem like many I've read before. And before anyone suggests, it is not a battery problem. I've changed to fresh batteries and the problem occurred minutes later.

I've read other similar posts and their answers, but most all have involved laptops and touchpads which do not apply in this case. As far as I can tell, there hasn't been a recent thread covering this. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

Malware/virus: check. Doesn't seem to be the issue unless I"m not detecting something

Startup: I try to keep it pretty clean, but there are a few: Logitech setpoint, rocketdock, display fusion (multi monitor manager), AMD hydravision, windows sidebar, AMD catalyst control, adobe reader and acrobat manager, realplayer updater, adobe gamma loader. I've tried multiple times to kill the realplayer and adobe helpers but they always come back.

Haven't tried a non-wireless keyboard. I don't actually own one.

Really? I prefer it over pretty much anything I've tried. I haven't tried a huge number of things, but several. Hopefully you're not one of those iTunes devotees. iTunes is awful.
