    Hi CGA1,

I have been recommending Partition Wizard for some time.

Not as complete as the Paragon PM PRO I normally use, but it's great for a freebie.

Partition Wizard doesn't come with a boot disc, sadly - but can do most things by flipping itself into "boot - time " mode.

The other thing to watch out for is that it calls Boot and System partitions the wrong way round - strangely.

It seems to be using Linux speak, instead of Windows - odd as it is only a Windows app.Not a problem in itself, but can be confusing for some.

In the screenie, it says Disk1 - that should be Disk 0

C is shown as Active & Boot - it should be Active & System

D is shown as System - it should be Boot.

    HI Dave 76,

    How did you manage that?

I always "doctor" my installs , so I can switch System partitions - but I need to hand the Active flag across to do it.

Just booting normally you will always have the 1 same System partition. The Boot partition will change , of course.

The currently booted OS will show that it is the "System Boot and Pagefile.. etc. etc.", thats Vista now, when you boot into win7 it will then show it's drive as "System Boot and Pagefile.. etc. etc.". Win7 will call itself drive C: also. At least it does on mine.
    ....
    Good luck,
    Dave

I've run into that one with a few different programs that appear to use the Linux method while being a little confusing at times. That's one of the main reasons you'll see recommend GParted as the Linux option since that will plainly display the sdoa or HDoa in that manner showing the first drive and partitions in plain view.

Likewise you still need to burn a live cd or create a usb key for that as well.

    Your right!
The 'System' and 'Active' will always stay with the first OS installed, as you said there is a way to change it but I haven't tried that one.
Only the Boot, Page file and Crash dump, change with the booted OS.
Slight error on my part, the OP was just concerned that his newly installed OS might not work and I remembered that some of the status designations change with the currently booted OS.

What's the advantage of 'handing the active flag across'?
Hopefully I haven't missed something important!

    Regards,
    Dave
