Which OS for Small FTP Server?

I have a small FTP Server for 6 of my clients to have offsite nightly backups. This is it's sole purpose and it's running Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Version which seems such a waste? Data transfer during the night totals 500-600Mb Max

I was thinking of rather downgrading the Server to either XP Pro, Server 2003 or Windows 7 (I have stock of all these OS'es). My Clients are using Cobian Backup 10 and My Server FTP App is Filezilla Server. I would love to try Ubuntu Server but I'm getting a bit old to learn new tricks. I'm only just getting my Newbie feet wet in the Networking environment.

    All advice is appreciated

I don't think it would matter, especially if you are running Filezilla as the server app. I use that for my company, so we can trade large graphics files with outside vendors. As far as I know, it doesn't require a server OS. I have an old Server 2003 box running it, and it often can handle 5-6 concurrent users.

The non-server versions of Windows can handle 10 simultaneous connections. An XP box would be fine.
