    Updated DVD

    Hi Everyone,
My copy of Win7 is about 12 months old now Im wondering
whether I can buy an upto date dvd from microsoft rather than
    installing updates.
Only I,ve had a couple of installs where I,ve not installed the
download prep file and I,ve got caught in a loop with a update
    failure.
Just thought maybe an updated dvd would help some.

    Thankyou for any advice.

Do you currently have Service Pack 1 installed?

It is a bunch of updates and improvements, many of them related to security.

You can download it and install it at no charge.

Do you regularly visit "Windows Update"? You should if you don't.

What exactly are you trying to do ? If you did get a new dvd you would have to reinstall. The answer would be yes ( service pack 1 ) but your gonna pay for it.

If it`s a single update that`s causing you a problem just uncheck and hide it. The only reason you should have an update failure is if you are trying to install a driver that is older then the one you currently have.

As far as I know, the most complete installer available at the moment includes SP1 (Service Pack 1). SP1 was released about a year ago. If you don't have a Win7 DVD with SP1 included, it's be worthwhile to acquire one.

Other than that, I've seen compilations of the security updates available for download:

Security updates are available on ISO-9660 DVD5 image files from the Microsoft Download Center

Experts can integrate all sorts of stuff (RAID drivers, etc.) into a custom Windows installations disk. Unfortunately, I'm not one of those experts.

Cannot say about the Op but I am having this exact problem. How can I hide a single update (sorry for the dumb question, but I am very new to the OS )?

Uncheck the update, right click on it then click hide update. Sometimes the same update will pop up a few times b4 it will stay hidden. For example I hide the internet explorer 9 update. I just don`t want it yet.

    Minnesota........ Brrrrrrr !
