    Second OS causing permissions problems

    Hi All

I had to reinstall windows 7 over the weekend but I kept the original on the same drive (now windows.old).
The problem is the new windows 7 isnt allowing me to overwrite, delete, etc files because the permissions are set to the old OS user.

Is there anyway of doing a full sweep of all the directories as going through each one changing the owner permissions will take be weeks.

I`ve also discovered that I created a new directory within an old one to save a document but its now saying "You do not have permission to save in this directory.contact the system administrator. would you like to save in the *** folder"

I`ve tried everything to change the permissions on that folder but it wont let me save.

    ANy ideas

    Thanks alot

Apply Take Ownership Shortcut , and take ownership of the required files easily .

       Warning
Dont take ownership of your entire Windows Folder .... it might cause system instability.

EDIT : If you want to delete windows old folder securely, follow it : Windows.old Folder - Delete

Thanks but its not just files its whole directories that are on other drives. Seems to be every directory I created in the other copy of windows 7 is locked to that and I have to manually change each one. Any ideas??
    Thanks

Take ownership of the whole DRIVE, not the individual folders on that drive. That should cause Windows to recurse through everything on the drive.

Do the folders show the "lock" icon? Or not? Or are you just getting "Access Denied"?

Thanks, Didnt realise you could do the whole drive. That seems to have fixed the problems.

    Thanks

It will fix the permission related issues. But if the drives are marked as read only, you may need different solution.

So let us know what the situation is .
