IBUYPOWER gave out my boss' Win7 Upgrade Key today

SF

Today my boss got her new laptop from IBUYPOWER (Gaming Computers and Gaming Notebooks - Buy a new Gaming PC - iBUYPOWER). When I checked the package contents it included a slip of paper that has the Microsoft labeling with Windows 7/Windows Vista product key on it. When me and her chose the laptop we opted for the $25 dollar mail-in-rebate for the upgrade. I don't know about you guys but I was VERY surprised and am a little hesitant to perform an upgrade with the RTM ISO and type in the key...

What do you guys think?

Chris

I don't see that it wouldn't work, as long as you use the proper version that they key was provided for.

if anything I thought that they shouldn't be providing the actual update keys yet...but neither me or her are complaining

lol, yeah, it is kind of weird that they would send it out so far ahead of general availability. Lucky for you I guess.

In some cases they give out things that can look like product keys, but they're actually what you code in on their website to register for the upgrade. If it's one of those, it wouldn't actually work in the installation itself.

Thanks for that post...I just assumed that it was a valid product key because it looked like the pic on the left... I will tell her tomorrow and she can just re-arm it until she gets the DVD on or after October 22nd
