    Killing explorer.exe worked

    Hi

I was having same issue too.

Issue was on my laptop that I had been using for watching DVDs on my big screen TV since my DVD player died.

Must have been related to switching to HDMI output.

Anyway, the "Kill Explorer.exe" method worked for me:

    - Auto Hide On
    - Kill Explorer.exe
    - Run Explorer.exe
    - Audo Hide Off

If it happens again, I'll try just killing explorer without the autohide on/off.

So glad I found this thread! It's been annoying me the past couple of weeks and it took me just over an hour find the right keyword combination that discovered this thread { Searched for: "windows 7 applications behind taskbar"

To hopefully help others having same issue, here's the other phrases I had tried Googling: "windows 7 taskbar on top", "windows 7 maximize taskbar"

Anyway... now I am exhausted and off to bed

    Thanks for helping all!

    Macbook Air Users

If you are using a Macbook Air with Parallels Tools installed, then that's the cause of the problem. Uninstalling Parallels Tools fixes it, and maximized windows will no longer extend behind the task bar.

Thank you! Was using a MacBook Pro, but after trying all the solutions in the previous post, removing Parallels Tools finally fixed it! :)

FINALLY - A warning about "supposed" necro'ing that makes sense. All these hyper wanna be mods and toughguys scream "neeeeeecroooo" and mods even hand out infractions and bans as if necro even means anything? LOL. What are they protecting or policing? Someone commenting in a thread relevant to them? Or keeping information on a subject condensed? Perhaps its neither, perhaps its policing to ensure you start a new thread to make a forum seem more active than it is! Really... im interested in the theory behind this. I bet most of the people that cry about it, or mods even... dont know. THey just do it because theyre sheep.

ANYHOW! This was not my reason for posting as its OBVIOUSLY very off topic. However when I began to post and saw this.. my inner pet peeve began to rear its ugly head.

Now that we're past that. Yes the threads old. However my post will be relevant, how else would I/someone find an old thread and decide to post in it? Because it pertains to a subject/problem/topic that interests them or they need help with at the time!

Just wanted to add that this problem is still plagueing people, namely me! (i cant speak for others). I have tried much of what is in this thread (which is the most all encompassing/comprehensive resource on the specific bug) that i could find. I find it awful that it was something that plagued older OS"s and is years old, and it is still causing issues today.

Perhaps its an issue on nvidia's end or the gpu drivers end?

All i know is I am running windows 8.1 and am doing so on 3 displays. It doesnt matter which display its on or if its on all of them but whenever I maximize a window it goes behind the taskbar at the bottom. If i resize/move the taskbar, makes no difference. Even if i relocate it. I moved it to the top and it began going behind it at the top.

    Talk about FRUSTRATING!!

has anyone found the culprit and/or a fix yet?

As i suspected, you are running, even Quad GTX's..
This is my second time revisiting this thread, i cant remember how i fixed it the first time i looked into this, so here i am again..

If you noticed, when disabling SLi, activating all 3 Displays, it will be fine.
I myself am running 2 way SLi on 3 Displays and am having the same problem where on my main and third Display the windows that are maximized go behind the TaskBar!
On Display 2 tho ( 2,1,3 is my setup) It wont go behind the TaskBar, this is friggin wiered..
Its definatly Nvidia and its Drivers..

I'll update if i find the fix i used the last time..

PS: Getting ridiculous how many registrations are needed for every damn forum.. One site, one registration, connected to every forum, can post right away with no hastle.. Damnit gave away a good idea -.- ...will die broke...

    So here it is:
    1. Open up "Nvidia Control Panel"
    2. Click on "Desktop" on the "Menu Bar"
    2. Highlight "Surround Displays"
    4. Click on "Confine TaskBar to Center Display"
    5. Go back there again and Uncheck "Confine TaskBar to Center Display"

This should fix it, i'm not sure if its only temporary and will mess up again after a restart tho.
All 3 Displays of mine, started to confine the maximized windows above the TaskBar..

klepp0906, see if that works for you!?

Ah! I lost this thread for awhile as you can see. Just got a email notification and I'm gonna give that a try. I don't use the taskbar on just my center display and I certainly don't mind if I have to toggle it considering I don't restart my PC very often.

Thank you for the suggestion. I swear I never anticipated so many issues when I decided to go multi card/multi monitor. Both technologies are a decade old but nvidia seems to place them last on list of priorities as the number of bugs is just massive.

Had much better experience with my backup rig which is eyefinity/Xfire. The only problem I've ran Into with that (and it does stink but I'm confident it will be fixed in the next catalyst release) is that bezel compensation doesn't work in portrait mode, only landscape.

Anyhow - thanks again! I'll let you know the result (but I expect it will work out!)

    I found a fix!
    1. Go to task manager.
    2. Select processes.
    3. Find explorer.exe and end it/stop it.
    4. Restart your computer.
    5. Enjoy

I'm having this problem of the app window hiding behind the taskbar when magnify is opened (in Jan 2015). My taskbar is on the right side. When I close the magnifier the taskbar disappears.

Anyone find a permanent fix yet?

Running Win7 Home Premium, 64 bits. Dell U2713HM monitor on a MSI HD6450 graphics card.
