Quite clever, actually. Partition Recovery Wizard is powerful enough.

Hadn't seen it as I'd gotten in the habit of linking the older versions archived by Si and Jonathan.
partition wizard 4.2 free.zip - Windows Live (Home)
    pw422.zip ISO - Windows Live

However I'd just gone through steps to convert Logical to Primary in the thread before this and didn't pause per usual to ask myself which is the conversion that charges now.

Hopefully the older version you posted will allow the OP to convert the OS disk back to Basic.

This is why I linked you to Partition Wizard versions 4.2 which is the last version in which conversion was free. However if you can still boot Win7 you may use Easeus Home version from the link above.

To use the bootable CD which also provides rescue capability download the ISO file and burn it to CD using ImgBurn at 4x speed. The file is here: pw422.zip ISO - Windows Live

Boot the disk, let it load, click on the HD # to highlight it, then from Disk tab select Convert to Basic Disk, Apply step.

You are saying that Windows would start even while it was still on a Dynamic disk?

While this may be possible, it is still not desirable to have Win7 on a Dynamic disk - which is meant to span partitions across multiple HD's only.

In the future please ask us for help when repartitioning so we can give you the exact steps. You now have the maximum 4 Primary partitions so to add another you'd want to convert H to Logical and add Logical sub-partitions. This avoids conversion to Dynamic.

If you don't have a Win7 DVD I would also make a System Repair Disc - Create and also back up a Win7 System Image to use in place of reinstalls: Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup

Primary partitions are mainly used for OS's, while Logical are idea for data since they cannot be accidentally marked Active to derail the boot files during install or Repairs. If you have the maximum three Primary and one Logical, you can add as many Logical subpartitions into the Logical as you want.

You can create a Logical partition in the empty space using PW, or Disk Mgmt should offer it to you since you only have 3 Primary. It's when you already have four primary partitions that it will warn you that you are about to convert to Dynamic Disk if you want to create another partition. Partition or Volume - Create New

Or using Partition Wizard, rightclick on the empty space, select Create new, choose NTFS Logical partition, then choose the size, letter, and click OK. If you want to make more than one in the same space you can make the size smaller then repeat the process. When finished creating these as you wish, click Apply.
