Auto-hide Taskbar Fails to Auto-hide

I set the Taskbar tab (in Taskbar & Start menu Properties) to Auto-hide the Taskbar. When I select Apply, the taskbar dips and disappears for a second and then comes right back and stays there.

Is there a way to make the auto-hide work?

W7 Home 6.1 / 7600

Thank you

HI! You can use this nifty 3rd party free software to hide the taskbar and re-enable it when you need to! On a personal note i find the taskbar in Win.7 a wonder! Different strokes for different folks,i guess!

Download ShellWin: Partially Hide/Show Windows 7 Taskbar With ShellWin

You should not have to use a 3rd party to get your Taskbar to do this. The only thing I can suggest is set it to auto hide/apply/okay. It shouldn't take a reboot but it doesn't cost anything.

I've heard some programs can interfere with Auto-Hide working correctly...

If this problem just started, did you recently install any new programs?

Some things you could try:
  • Start Windows in Safe Mode and see if Auto-Hide works.
  • Turn off all unnecessary start-up programs in msconfig and see if it works.

I had this problem episodically from W95 !!
Now I Have W7 and suddenly it appears and don't go away.
Seems that the O.S. think there is an open Balloon, even if the balloon is not !

Googled the Web, found an interesting utility that seems can solve it:
"Taskbar Slapper" from NovaFrost BUT it s not anymore available.

Luckily I found another one, I tries it .. It fix forever the problem and give you a bonus:
It delay the taskbar!!!

Taskbar Auto-Hide fails frequently
I have the task bar set to Auto-Hide but now and then, maybe twice a day, it doesn't hide. None of the tray items are flashing, the mouse is not near. What I do is stop explorer.exe processes until the task bar disappears, then it comes back for a moment, and auto-hides correctly. I don't know...

Anyone else seen this. I cannot get the task bar to auto hide. I tell it to auto-hide, but it always stays on top, which is annoying because it covers other useful stuff.. Any help appreciated..

Taskbar (Auto-Hide) doesn't hide all the way?
My friend was wandering how you could get rid of that barely top part of the task bar when it is in auto-hide. So is this possible? Note: You have to look really close to see it.

Taskbar auto-hide
Hello, When I set some programs(I found 2 of such programs - Opera 10.50beta and Eclipse) to maximized screen, the task bar is no more accessible. It is set to be auto-hiding and always on top. Programs are not in full-screen mode(i.e. f11 doesn't help). Pressing windows key on keyboard is not...

Hi, I have recently set the taskbar to Auto-Hide, but I am having some issues with it. First of all, I can see a few pixels of the taskbar on the bottom of the screen (small line, not completely hidden). And second, when I hover (the mouse) over the hidden taskbar, it comes up very...
