My computer freezes when I try to go into safemode

Hi I hope that there is an answer in solving my problem. Here is my story: I have loaded window 7 32bit a while back and so far it has been running great. Since then I had a virus and I try to boot into safemode but when I hit f8 it just has a white curser flashing. If I let it boot by itself its ok it starts into windows. So I try to go into safemode by just powering off my laptop in window so it would kick me into safemode. It put me to the option of chosing which safemode but it freezes while i move the arrows. I try to boot it from my repair cd, it boots but when it asks to hit any key to start the boot, it freezes. I then backed up all my files and reloaded window 7. Still the problem is still there. I tried everything that I could think of. I don't know if its in my registry or the os disc. I scan the registry and its good. My hard drive is new 500gb western ditgital. I have a toshiba laptop satelite a215-s5818. any help would be great.

Try wiping the HD first with Diskpart Clean Command
by accessing DISKPART At PC Startup

Then follow these steps to get a perfect Clean Reinstall Windows 7 Factory OEM

This will give you a baseline perfect reinstall on a HD which has been cleaned of possible corruption.

You can also test your hardware first including RAM - Test with Memtest86+ and the HD maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD test - or wait to see if cleaning the HD and a perfect reinstall helps.

    williamsage,
I,basically do not assume anything! That said, what AV tool did you use to clear the Virii? I mean, did you use the local AV installed,or did you try an On-line Virus Scanner, like HOUSECALL OR KASPERSKY?

    best wishes,

Ok thanks gregrocker I'll give it a shot and let you know with the results. Sreedhav, I didn't downlload any av. I just notice that I couldn't get into safemode or even if i got into safemode i couldn't scroll up or down. When I do it freezes. Like if my system shutdown all of a sudden and when i turn it back on and you get into that one screen where it says your window has shutdown please select lauch repair or start windows normally and it counts down. I have to let it count down because if i try to highlight it and hit enter it freezes.

I was under the impression you're trying to get a reinstall to overcome the infection as is often necessary, but if you want to try these disinfection steps:

First try booting into Safe Mode with Networking to install, update and run a full scan with Malwarebytes.

If Safe Mode is not working, download, burn to CD or write to flash stick, boot and run a full scan with Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper. If it fails try one of these FREE Bootable AntiVirus Rescue CDs.

    Then run SFC -SCANNOW Command

Ok. I did everything I could but still could not get into safe mode by pushing f8. It still flashes a cursor. Even if I shut it down I can't even chose the option to go to safe mode because if I move the arrows it will freeze. The only way to get into safemode is msconfig. The funny thing is that when I plug my hd in another laptop it can boot into safemode with f8. So does that mean its a motherboard issue? If so, is there a tool to wipe down the motherboard back to original? Let me know

I thought we were helping you clean reinstall a week ago when you posted back again that you couldn't get into Safe Mode which has nothing to do with clean reinstalling. We can help you try to boot into Win7, or we can help you copy out your files and Clean Reinstall. If you have a hard time understanding the choices being offered, be sure to ask back any questions.

Work through these steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot - Windows 7 Forums

At any point you can decide to rescue your files using methods shown in above blue tutorial link and then Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Or try running Toshiba Factory Recovery from its partition, Recovery Disks you made or order from Toshiba Tech Support: Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility

While logging to safe mode, windows take more time to load than normal windows loading. Here are a few suggestions to fix this problem:

STEP 1: Make Computer Faster by Upgrading RAM
Step 2: Make Computer Faster by Removing Computer Viruses, malwares
Step 3: Make Computer Faster by fixing registry errors
Step 4: Make Computer Faster by Minimizing Startup Programs

    Go to Start > Run.

    Type msconfig and press Enter.

The General tab helps diagnose if the problems encountered are with drivers, services, or startup items by unchecking the appropriate boxes and restarting. The Startup tab allows you to individual disable or re-enable startup items.
