i7940 not overclocked
does this look normal
just wanted to know if anything looked to high for my chip. cause i rarley get lockups but im trying to eliminate all possible problems and i cant find that much info on i7940 most pages are for i7920
ty 4 the help DarkNovaGundam
Most of the 920 info is relevant to the 940 (it's essentially the same chip) same chip
If anything, the max temps on the cores look hot, was that after the sensor movement test only? Is it stock cooling as well?
yes it is a stock intel cooler.
i want a noctua evntually. or how ever u spell it
was that after the sensor movement test only? yes
That max temp of 99C IS hot. I think i7s will start shutting off processes at 105C so you need a cooler. That is my opinion. The idle temp is okay.
thank you all noctua here i come
Did you install it yourself? You might want to double check that all the four pins are firmly in place, although all the temps are close to each other indicting it's probably in place correctly.
Since Real Temp uses P95 to test sensor movement, it will be higher than you would normally see in everyday usage. Plus you probably still have Turbo/HT enabled which will push the temps up even higher.
If your ambient temperature is high where you are, that also has an impact on temps.
Replacing the stock cooling is a good idea, especially if you plan to overclock.
As it is, it's within the 'safe' range although it is very close to being thermally throttled.
