ok, when i just went to reinstall windows, the D: \drive is showing up as a primary. is that right? I can't remember if that's what they should be. i may have to copy all the content to my ext, then reinstall windows and hope the ext is fine.

but it even has the same problem. i'm wondering if this is a bug or something.

they aren't set to hidden. thanks
Have a second look. While in the C drive, where you can see all the files and folders, set the hidden files and folders as visible, and browse to that another place .

Dont mark anything active/inactive at the first place... first post a screenshot of your full screen disk management window ... let us check that it is really necessary.

it was a bug. a nice little utility called "unhide exe" found it and got rid of the problems.

    thanks for all the help.
