Can i sell my windows 7 home basic 64-bit once i have replaced it

I want to get a better version of windows 7 ie windows professional and want to sell my home basic edition Disk. How do i let windows registration know that I have replaced the old one so when the buyer registers it it doesnt come up as a copy. I don't want to do the upgrade online route as it costs the same as getting a new disk here so it is hardly an upgrade price. BEsides I need to reformat my drive as the motehrboard was faulty and had to be replaced so I will be reformatting anyway.

Hello Dragonfire, and welcome to Seven Forums.

    It all depends.

If your Windows 7 Home Basic copy is a OEM copy or a factory OEM copy that came preinstalled on your computer, then you will not be able to sell it since it is permanently tied to the first computer (yours) that is was activated on and can never be activated on another computer.

If it is a retail copy, then sure you could sell it if you like since it will no longer be installed on your computer. Since it has been activated on your computer, the new owner may have to do a phone activation for their computer though.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn
