A 64 bit application won't run on a 32 bit system. Data file created by applications (like Word documents, PowerPoint documents, etc) can be read on any Windows OS.

As kegobeer said, 64/32 bit only applies to the OS and other applications. Data files are pretty much interchangeable except that a 64-bit application, such as Excel, may be able to create a larger data file than a 32-bit application can handle to to memory restraints.
