How do I remove an unwanted image from the desktop screen?

A broken glass sheet image shows on the left side of the screen as soon as I power on my sony VAIO windows 7 Professional laptop. How do I clear this unwanted broken glass sheet image?

I can work on the right side of the screen and I have access to the taskbar. I do not have access to the start menu as the broken glass sheet image hides the Start menu. Any help on this will be appreciated.

How do you know it's an image and not the screen which is actually broken?

A screenshot will tell us that

I don't think a screenshot will capture the cracked screen, only the image which is on the screen and possibly obscured by a cracked screen.

If the actual screen is cracked, then the screenshot will show the normal screen, if the screen isn't cracked, then the screenshot will show the image :)

Also, is it just appearing on the desktop, or everywhere?

That`s the first time I`ve ever heard a cracked lcd screen referred to as a broken glass sheet image. Have you recently dropped your laptop ?

The answer to your question is.. Call Sony and order a new screen.

Yes. You are right the screen looks like cracked. I will check with the vendor whether the screen can be replaced. Thank you very much!
