Windows 7 RTM Wont Activate :(

Hey guys, I'm hoping some of you guys can give me some advice here.

I'm a member of technet, I've been for a while now. I got Windows 7 Ultimate x64 RTM the day it was released, I've finally JUST today got around to installing it on my second rig. My current rig still has 7201. I'll do it to RTM after I get this sorted.

So, I just added Win 7 Ultimate x64 onto my new system I just finished building not but last night. Everything is fine. I install Windows. Select to Activate as soon as I'm online as I didn't have the net plugged in yet.

So, just now I plug in my internet, and it immediately pops up and says your version of Windows is Not Genuine, you may have been a victim of Software Piracy and the screen went black. (it's got the watermark back in bottom, saying build 7600 and this copy is not genuine.. I've now tried 3 times to activate. no go, I restarted the PC. I went to Properties. I've tried a few more times.

When trying to activate online I get Error Code 0x80072F8F. I then hit more information tab, it says a Security Error Has Occurred.

Any idea's??? It says show me other options, connect by phone, activate online, buy new key online, also gives me the option to Re-Enter the serial number. I've tried that also. I don't want to try another one, as I only get 10 with technet, I don't want to waste another one, or is something just wrong and I need to figure it out?

    Thanks for any idea's.

Is this a genuine copy from technet?
also you could try to install 7 again, this time with the net cable plugged in, and enter the serial number, in the setup.

I'm not aware of any legit copy of 7600 having a watermark, but have you tried reinstalling and seeing if the problem still occurs?

    EDIT: sergiogarcia9 beat me. :|

Well I don't wanna reinstall again, but I guess all I've done is install the Nvidia driver and Core Temp, thats all so it's not like I'll have to start over to far.

    Should I try another key?

is there a way to check windows version. whats the code for that, I forget. winver?

    • Click Start, type regedit and press Enter to open the Windows registry
    • Navigate to the registry key – HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

Make sure the time and date is correct ... also this could be a connection problem.

This is an old article, but it could help with 'trouble shooting'.

it wont let me change the date... now it's showing 8/12 but I chose 8/27 on install as it would NOT let me change it.
