Interesting idea though , i have been look through KAV's settings and there are a good few to go through. Just a pity i dont understand them all.

I do fear that some readers can misinterpret a thought process and take it as fact.
I have had this happen to me 4 times over the last few months. It's not your software thats causing it. It's a Windows 7 RC bug that is happening to tons of people.
I had to deal with a Microsoft Support Tech twice and they acknowledge to me that this was a common error that was to be fixed eventually. Each time they suggested a bunch of registry stuff that didn't work.
Each time, restoring from my last image backup was the only solution I could find. It's a problem with the OS writing over the top of some obscure registry entries when settings are messed with. I also checked the same registry entries mentioned here and they were correct. I don't use Glary or Kapersky but have seen numerous others complain about this on the Microsoft forum.
Oh yeah...In addition to the desktop icon, it probably wont work to right click from the start menu either. Only if you run the msc or choose the menu entry in Administrative tools directly has mine worked.
I don't know if the RTM version is fixed but I can tell you it happens in both the 64-bit and 32-bit versions of the RC on two radically differnet computers. None of them used any kind of non-windows cleanup utilities. One had Norton AV and one had McAfee AV. Short of the restoral of my backups I've never got a fix.
The first time I had it happen was when I set the recycle bin to not display delete confirmations and then several desktop icons no longer responded to right-click commands. The second time I resetup a new network connection. That time only the right-click manage failed. (Could be run from the menu OK). Another time I was changing the way the start menu looked and bam! Right after that, again no right-click manage.
It seems it is Windows related. I wish I could give a better solution. It's been about a month since I tried to solve this.

It's a great relief to hear that its not just dumb ass me (as it so often is :P). I have been researching long and hard, digging around for context menu tools, digging in loads of reg locations etc even got a copy of Yamicsoft Windows 7 Manger just to see if it might help in some way but alas no.(very good app though)

Reading your description confirms that the problem i have is exactly the one your describing to the letter, even to the point that it did happen just after i changed the recycle bin to not ask for confirmation although i also had been changing/setting up my desktop as well (as you do after installing an OS) so i couldn't say for definite what i did to cause it, but it does make me feel better to hear what you had to say.
So thx very much for joining this forum to drop a note about this subject, i probably wouldn't have known for ages what had happened as i was kinda just about to start moving on and just trying to forget about it.
So sounds like all we can do is wait for an update from M$, if they get around to it any time soon.

Im having the same problem.
When i click Manage, is opened CompMgmtLauncher.exe instead of compmgmt.msc
Fortunately, I'm not experiencing that problem on my system (7600 x64) and I've done a lot of registry hacks to add stuff to context menus. I hope you find a solution soon.
Hey guys. I've experienced this issue a lot, every build since (and including) 7100. Even the RTM gets it.
When I first noticed it there was nothing on the internets about the issue yet. lol I remeber telling Brink about it when I found it on 7100, and he hadn't heard about it.
I did however come up with an imediat fix for it once I found it. So I thought I'd let you guys know how and explain it.
As far as I can tell, it's the actual .exe that gets corrupt. I came to this conclusion from testing the .exe on machines that had a working one. The corrupt one will not run, however, the other one will.
To get yours working again, simply take control over the corrupt one, and replace it with the compmgmtlauncher from vista. Then it will work again, and will not quit working after a while.
This is more of a work around, but hey, it restores function to everything, like the "Manage" context menu entry.
There's no options loss or anything from replacing this with the vista file as far as I can tell, because I believe compmgmtlauncher.exe's soul purpose is to allow launching from context menu's and by other means, since it won't allow you to use compmgmt.msc that way.
So all it does it act as a shortcut to compmgmt.msc :)
I've kept a copy of my original compmgmtlauncher (the corrupt one), in a different location, just incase Microsoft releases a fix and I need it. So you might want to do the same
Use the Take Ownership shortcut from Mr. Grim to take full control of the corrupt .exe to replace it. (right-click system32 and take ownership)

I've attached a copy of the compmgmtlauncher from an install of Vista Ultimate x86. It doesn't matter what version of 7 you're running, even x64 or x86, this will work :)
