Battery Red X (consider replacing battery)

i have a pretty new battery (about 2 months) and it was working fine, did a windows update and now am getting the red x and consider replacing battery message.
i was reading up on it online but noticed it was alot with RC1 i think
just checking in to see if there is a fix or if this is a known problem

Update: i can unplug my laptop and use it for 2 to 3 hours (lowest power setting) with no problems and also decided to reinstall back to vista to try and see if it mattered....on vista it has no problems detecting my battery but once i upgraded to win 7 again it had the x red on my battery.

i forgot to tell you guys that i am using win 7, acer aspire 5580 and this all started after a windows update.

This sounds as though it is a driver problem. Unfortunately, the Acer website indicates that Windows 7 is not supported on your laptop.

    Red X on Battery icon

I am using a acer 5742 with windows 7 professional. This issue of red x happened about 11 months after I bought this laptop. All you need to do is talk to your service centre for the laptop and they will reload the OS with SP1....and the red x vanishes....it is a problem with software not hardware.
