The mkv files with no audio are not working for you because they are AC3 audio. AC3 is not working for you (Do you get the AC3 tray icon while they're playing?) Also there is more to installing Ac3 filter. But don't worry about it since you don't use Media Center.

Anyway, this is not the point. The point here is to try and get my 64-bit setup to have the same Administrator access as my 32-bit system.
MKV's with AC-3 work fine the ones that don't are using Vorbis and WavPack. Only icon that shows is for Haali.

I thought Media Center would be able to play AC-3 out of the box because that's what Dolby Ditigal 5.1 uses on DVD's, isn't it?

EDIT: Come to think about it, I don't think Windows Media Player even plays DVD's out of the box. Maybe it's my other program I use play DVD's that makes all this work for me.

But like you said that's not what this threads about so will end it there.

What a silly and un-necessary setup.
You built it, you set it up, you use it. Why pray-tell have any user but the default Windows sets up? Why log in at all?

    Here's mine.

Of course Media Center plays DVDs out of the box. I've been building HTPCs for a long time and never had any issues getting things working. If you are having issues with codecs, I highly suggest you visit the avsforums and go to the HTPC board - not only will you have all the guides you need to get things running (without the need for the system administrator account, which I've never, ever had to use for HTPCs/video editing/ripping/etc), you will find detailed guides by Assassin on how to build a perfect HTPC.

BTW - the shark007 codec works great for x86 and x64 systems, complete with handling all necessary registry tweaks.
