Windows 7: Can my system run Windows 7?

28 Aug 2009   #11

Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit

Yes, I've been a pretty hard-core Linux user for some time now.
But I need to run many applications (programming etc.) which wouldn't run on Linux. And I heard about Windows 7. I wanted to try out something other than Windows XP, and I was sure my machine couldn't run Vista without BSODing on me every 5 minutes, so I thought of Win7.
Anyway, I'm off to bed now.

I too am a Linux user..but have always been a Windows and Linux user for years. I'm not really sure that there is anything within Windows 7 that would sell me on running Windows and windows only. I don't find it that much different from XP or's just a well running conglomeration of the Windows feature set. The issues that have plauged Windows in the past, will still continue with 7 (cost, activation, spyware, viruses, defragging, registry issues, and higher system requirements than some lighter-weight Linux distros wouldn't have).

Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit

I'm not what you might call a 'multi-tasker' user: I usually only run one application at a time with an antivirus (one that's very light on system resources) running in the background.
Will my current system configuration be enough to at least do this?
By the way, here's where I first read of Windows 7 running on 512MB RAM:

Win7 Build 7600 x86

Hi Muhammad,

I guess the only way to find out if Win7 runs satisfactory for your needs, is to try it out.

Just make a good backup of your present OS, so you can turn back.

Good luck, and please post back the results to us.
