    startup repair

I have a Toshiba Satalite p205 which came with Vista pre-installed.
I installed full version of Win Ultimate and everything was fine for awhile.

Later on after numerous updates it started to want to do a startup repair 3 out of 5 times.

My last resort was formatting and re-install. Same problem.

Anyone have a solution for this?

Simply formatting is often not enough.
    Make a 100 % clean install.
    Clean Install Windows 7

Report back to us immediately, before you install anything other than MSE, Microsoft Security Essentials, as to the status.

Of course, simply formatting is not enough. After formatting all you have is a totally clean disk with no information; ie, a totally blank disk. But the OP clearly stated after formatting s/he installed the operating system. A clean install simply does the same thing using a one step process, but the results are are no different. If you could cite any reputable data source to the contrary I would be interested in reviewing it.

    Thanks for replying.
Ok, I see a disagreement. I'm no novice at installing WinX. The disk I used was a full version OEM. I may have fdisked the drive before installing. Regardless, I know I formatted the drive with no system prior to the install and still got the same problem.

    Please explain with some details.

    Thankyou

My point was that you have already done what most would call a clean install, but additionally formatted prior to installing. So, there is no reason to repeat the process and install again, there would be no benefit. At this point I don't have a solution for your problem, but I will continue in my efforts to find one.

Hope this helps to clear things up.

Have you installed any new hardware or made changes to any of the hardware connections?

Have you ever been able to successfully activate the Windows 7 Ultimate installation?

Does an sfc /scannow run to conclusion with no errors?

Is this happening with just the clean install or did you, also, install updates?
