It's an itty bitty configuration file on your SD card. Why do you even bother dealing with it. But if you really want to get rid of it, reformat the SD card. It may go away - or not.

Genius! Never would have thought to try this. I tried almost all the unsuccessful methods you list, got very annoyed, found your post... bingo!
FWIW, the offending folders were created by a user on my secure FTP server. He created a folder, didn't see it, created it again, then couldn't delete the original... or the second. Then files within were getting shifted around as I renamed and attempted to delete. In the end, I had two folders listed in Explorer (but no longer in FileZilla) that Windows said were not in that location. 7zip FTW!
Cheers
I managed, using Robocopy, to create 'Archive' and 'archive' in the same folder, then couldn't delete them both. Reflexion123's solution worked so I just wanted to say thank you. A solution which shouldn't work for a problem you shouldn't be able to create, appropriate really.
reflection213 solution did not work for me, but I was able to use 7zip to get rid of the folder.
1. Open 7zip and browse to the folder you want to delete
2. Right click on the folder and select Move to
3. Browse to the C: drive and select the $Recycle.Bin
4. Close 7 zip and empty recycle bin, folder will be gone.
If for some reason you do not see the Recycle Bin:
1. Go to Control Panel - Folder Options
2. Select View tab and select Show hidden files, folders and drives
3. Also uncheck Hide protected operating system files
Easy 7zip steps:
- In 7zip, navigate to the empty folder's parent folder
- Rename the empty folder; can be as simple as 'd' or 't' or 's', etc.
- Close 7zip, then use Windows Explorer to delete the empty folder (NB: if you had Windows Explorer open, you will have to close and reopen before you can delete the renamed empty folder)
I wish I knew how my brother's Mac is causing this problem when he's uploading something to my Filezilla server. Never had this problem when he was running Windows. Silly Macs
