Why did the guy you paid to change the adpater jack not complete the job? I'd ask him to.

I will approach him about the situation. May be a few days. I will post back with my findings.

Sorry its taken so long. Turns out the motherboard itself is bad. Any suggestions on replacements?

If you're going to replace it I would use the same exact mobo model so you can use the OEM Win7 license which came with the PC..

Dell may be the best place to start, since they will have other methods to preserve the OEM license even if the same mobo model isn't available.

However it may be cheaper to buy another PC which in the Sunday ads are often cheaper than mobo replacement.

I've got a desktop but I wanted this laptop as a replacement for my fiancée. She has an Acer all in one, bleh, and she doesn't use it often. She would rather have something simple and mobile. I found a replacement mobo for around $130. Not sure if I should repair this one or look for an upgrade and spend the extra.

    same issue

    Hello,
I am having the EXACT same issue with my Dell Inspiron N5030. I have gone as far as replacing the power supply and the battery. I was going to replace the DC jack but it sounds like from your experience that will not do me any good.

I am curious if you replaced your mother board yet and if that solved the issue. Not sure weather to spend the money on one or just junk the laptop.

Have the same problem borrowed a charged battery and it booted just fine. Now i am trying to replace the power jack as it wont charge the adapter but it is soldered on with silver solder and hard to get off. Just hope it charges after replacement.
