Any program i try to bring up freezes, can anyone help?

Basically i start windows normally everything looks fine but then if i try to click on anything, anything at all windows explorer, world of Warcraft, internet, start menu, anything freezes and becomes unresponsive. I started up in Safe mode and things seem to work fine so i ran a full system anti virus scan, using Avast but it couldn't detect anything. Only way i can restart my computer is the "hard restart" holding the button down till it shuts off. It's a good computer my friend built it a few years ago and i recently bought it from him. system grade gave it a 5.9.

Wish i could give more system info. then that but i am not to great with computers and seeing as i cant open anything on comp. i cant get to much info. i may be able to in safe mode but i haven't tried, if you need more info i can try to get it just let me know what you need.

Oh and i tried to put in the windows 7 cd to try and run a repair option(my friend told me to do it) but in normal mode even that becomes unresponsive and dont come up and whole comp freezes. i tried in safe mode but it said i cannot do that in safe mode...

Hello Garven0 and welcome to Seven Forums.

Couple of things to try to narrow down the problem. First try running a System File Checker scan from an elevated command prompt in safe mode (option two, this tutorial.) If any problems are noted run the scan 3 times rebooting in between each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

You could also try troubleshooting this issue by running a Clean Startup (AKA Clean Boot.)

    Please post back your results.
