Windows 7: HP G62 - 144DX won't boot past HP screen

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit

You would need to connect the drive to another system as I described before, and then run Diskpart clean all: Disk - Clean and Clean All with Diskpart Command. Just make sure you run it on the right drive.

Windows 7 64 bit

Hey, so I did wind up buying a new computer. But my dad wanted to take my old one to see if he could fix it, so I let him have it. Anyway, somehow he managed to get it so that the screen comes back up again. But it's stuck at the same place as it was before. Should I try calling support and removing the CMOS battery?

If you still have Tech Support then I'd ask them as this may be a known issue.

Reading back through the thread I see you were stuck at that point unable to boot a disk. Is this still the case? Try repeatedly since the main cause for this is most often the user not triggering it correctly.

If it won't boot a disk, then try entering BIOS setup to reset to defaults. I linked your Manual earlier which has steps to access the CMOS battery but it is quite involved. However since you'd given up the laptop for dead anyway it can be a learning experience. Just take it very slow motion. Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

The next step if resetting BIOS in BIOS setup or by pulling CMOS battery won't boot disks is to reflash the BIOS with latest version.

Before doing this I would pull the HD out to wipe it in another laptop with Diskpart Clean Command
since bad code in boot sector can also block BIOS post as is happening.

Once you can boot the disk then go back to post #2 to work through the steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot or if you've wiped the HD or are otherwise ready move on to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

I know this thread is old, but might help if someone else encounters this problem.

This worked for me. power off computer. remove battery. reinstall battery. hold down F12 while turning on computer. Computer powered on but didn't show anything on screen then it shut down after about 1 min. Turn computer on again, and should be good to access BIOS/Boot menu....
