How do I make files not to 'open with' in default in cmd?

So, I was searching on the internet for solutions about how to open a file with Windows Shell Common, then I found this guy on Yahoo! Answers telling me to default open it with CMD. Now I can't open it with any programs. I'm stuck with the CMD, popping out when I open the file. I have a .dat file and I really want to restore(or whatever terms you call it) back to open in default with 'Windows Shell Common' or just with Notepad.

Please help, I really need an answer. Just make things easy to understand for me. I'm not a computer programmer or what.
