    I'm afraid I'm really lost here! Attached is what I see when I try to go into the recovery partition.

    So I can't see those folders, nor can I copy them! I tried just copying the whole D:\Recovery folder over to C, but it is still inaccessible.

    xcopy /h winre.wim c:\recovery\windowsre
    xcopy /h boot.sdi c:\recovery\windowsre

    It might! But I'm a very basic user with little knowledge of command prompt, so I don't know how to type onto new lines like this code. If I type C:\ and press enter to go down to "md \recovery\windowsre", it says the command is unknown.

    Sorry, feel free to ignore me if you're getting bored of this!

    Click Start.

    Type cmd in the Search field.

    Right-click cmd under the Programs list then choose Run as Adminstrator.

    Accept the UAC prompt to open the command line window.

    Type each line of code that Kaktussoft has given you and press Enter each time to run the command.

    When you type the code make sure you take particular notice of any spaces. If you don't include them the code won't run.

    I added more spaces for better readability

    Hi Kaktussoft,
    Attached is a screenshot of what happens when I type exactly what you said. All the error messages are the reason I thought I was missing something, which I obviously am!

    Hi Kaktussoft,
    Please don't apologise to me, you are helping me and you don't have to!

    I have put in all of that code now.

    My bcdedit output reads :

    Windows Boot Manager
    --------------------
    identifier {bootmgr}
    device partition=\Device\HarddiskVolume2
    path \bootmgr
    description Windows Boot Manager
    locale en-US
    inherit {globalsettings}
    default {current}
    resumeobject {1f8184a2-14de-11df-9734-f08c6d8c50b0}
    displayorder {current}
    toolsdisplayorder {memdiag}
    timeout 10

    Windows Boot Loader
    -------------------
    identifier {current}
    device partition=C:
    path \Windows\system32\winload.exe
    description Windows 7 Home Premium
    locale en-US
    recoveryenabled No
    osdevice partition=C:
    systemroot \Windows
    resumeobject {19559bd2-a197-11e1-9581-806e6f6e6963}
    and my C:\Windows\System32\Recovery\ReAgent.xml output reads :

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"
    standalone="true"?>
    -<WindowsRE version="1.0">
    <WinreBCD id=""/>
    <WinreLocation id="0" offset="0"
    path=""/>
    <ImageLocation id="0" offset="0"
    path=""/>
    <OsInstallLocation id="0" offset="0"
    path=""/>
    <InstallState state="0"/>
    <OsInstallAvailable state="0"/>
    <WinREStaged state="0"/>
    <ScheduledOperation state="4"/>
    <OperationParam path=""/>
    <OsBuildVersion path=""/>
    <OemTool state="0"/>
    <BootKey state="0"/>
    </WindowsRE>
    It looks good to me (!) It looks good to you?

    New problem now, not sure if related, but now the computer does not shut down if I hit the "shut down" button on Start Menu. It simply reboots. The only way to turn off the computer is to hold down the physical power button!

    Edit : Fixed? I put the computer into sleep mode a couple of times to see if a change of procedure would fix it - it seems to have done the trick
