Open an Elevated Command Prompt
then:
Code:
takeown   /f   X:
or maybe
takeown     /f     X:\
replace X with actual drive letter of unaccessible volume
Does that work?

right click on drive letter->properties->security. Now you can change the owner to yourself. Save everything and go again to drive letter->properties->security. Set "allow access" for all 4 groups to Full Access. and press OK many times. Post results

He should change
Authenticated Users = Change
Users = Read+Execute
and change the owner to System

as well. Although he just wanna have access. But this is the default for data partitions.
