    Bob,

I have bought several thousands of dollars of computers & parts from both TigerDirect & NewEgg over the past 6 years. I give them both a 110% rating for my dealings with them. I subscribe to their weekly email specials. I search them for the best deals & FREE shipping. The few defective items or mistakes were taken care of promptly. I plan on buying some items yet today on their Holiday Weekend specials.
I gave you a link in your other thread on a HP special. I bought a similar one a year ago, that has been running 24/7 with no problems.

    HP 505B B2C02UT Desktop PC - AMD Athlon II X2 220 2.8GHz, 3GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, DVDRW, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit at TigerDirect.com

Best wishes for a successful new computer purchase.

Doc, that's a nice system. Amazing what one can buy now for little money.

For reviews one has to take the whole compliment in consideration not 2-3. I have posted some quite honest and scathing reviews on Newegg which are still there so I believe in them since they are from users with a product.
Check when the reviews were made too because sometimes there may be a "bad batch" of an item.

I just stopped by Office Depot to see what they had and was surprised to see the popular Acer slimline on sale this week in their weekly ad for $259: AMD Dual Core E-450, 500gb HD, 4gb RAM, Win7 HP. Office Depot Advertised Specials

Two of my roommates in Calif bought these for $287 and $319 several years ago and have had no problems at all. I clean reinstalled WIn7 32 bit for both of them.

When I first researched the model there were warnings to make sure the DVD player door opens unhindered since is installed vertically. That's the only complaint I've ever seen on the model which is perhaps the best buy I've ever seen.
Greg I bought one of them Acer's from Office Depot for my wife after reading your comments and for the price it is a very nice computer, Then I went to newegg and got 21 1/2 inch widescreen Acer monitor to go with it, she plays a lot of puzzle games, reads her e-mails and surf's the Internet so for just under $400 she's real happy. After cleaning up the bloatware and unchecking everything not necessary in msconfig it starts up in less than 1 min.

Hi Robert11, are you really settled in on a new PC? Did you post any details about the old PC failure? Is the old PC less than five years old? Was it performing adequately before it stopped working?

I only ask in case you wouldn't mind saving the cost of a new system longer for what might be the modest cost of a new part instead.

Newegg is a very good place to buy computers and computer parts, but I don't recommend you get a desktop from them since the shipping costs will be expensive. Desktops are big, so they will be expensive to ship. I suggest you go to your local Office Depot to get a desktop.[/QUOTE]

just bought a desktop on newegg in febuary with free shipping.

    Hi Jerry -

Glad to hear it. They are solid machines.

I'll bet you could get the startup closer to 30 seconds or faster with a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 - maybe later when you need a project? Let me know if you need any help.

Father's Day is coming soon. If you check New Egg or Tiger Direct, you can probably find some Free Shipping deals going on. There is also a third place that I like. It is in Houston where I am so I just pick things up, but they are comperable to the two mentioned above and do have free shipping from time to time. Give these folks a look also.

I wouldn't buy much of anything from newegg anymore that is either delicate or may require a return. Their shipping is horribe and even if it is DOA, you may get a hassle returning it.

See for example this long thread (it goes beyond the OP open box issue)

For a computer, I would choose someone with a good return policy with a good record for customer servic3e, like Amazon. Just search their site for Asus computers and pick one that is "sold by Amazon"

What GeneO said. I have been a Newegg customer for 7+ years and I still buy from them. I have discovered after doing my homework at Newegg for reviews, pricing, features, etc, Amazon is the place to buy, they have a no hassle defective return policy and they pay return shipping and no lame "restock fee" which the Egg will ding you for even on a DOA item.
If one phones the Egg you may get better results. Wait time is very long.
