During resizing the operation fails with total data loss. Only PW boot CD and Disk Mgmt have never been reported to fail.
Of course the data should always be backed up, and a System Image saved as well if you cannot afford to lose the OS installation.
The tools just aren't absolutely fool-proof. Good, but not perfect. Drive geometry is complex and tricky.
You might get in situation that can't be undone and never know why.
If a tool gets you in a jam, all you can do is try some other tool, which may be a step down in reliability from the first one. You might be forced to spend thousands on a professional data recovery outfit.
Kinda like imaging---hope it works, know what you will do when it doesn't--i.e. back up your data.
Partition Wizard has been the least problematic of any of the partitioning tools--at least on this forum.
