Failed BIOS update,HP pavilionG6 won't boot up and only black screen

Hi everyone. Please help out here. I have an HP Pavilion G6-1d40ca. It crashed the other day while I was using it, and when I restarted it, it went to BIOS update. It froze while updating, and died in itself (I think the battery died, it wasn't plugged in. I never knew about BIOS update, so I wasn't expecting for the battery to die during the update, so I didn't plug it in.) Second time, booted it up (it was plugged in this time), and went into BIOS update once again. All's good, was able to use the laptop for about five minutes, then it crashed once again. Now, when I boot it up, nothing comes up on the screen. No nothing. The power button is on, the wi-fi is on, the LED light is blinking non-stop, more than 6 times than what is referred to the HP website.

I tried doing the remove battery and adapter, press power button for 30 seconds, plug it in without the battery, but to no avail. I also did the whole win+B, but doesn't work either. I tried pressing f11, but nothing comes up on the screen. I don't remember where I put the recovery discs that came with the laptop. I thought I put it on the box together with recovery discs for our other computers at home, but I guess I didn't. The thing is, I don't know where to begin, since I don't have anything on the screen itself. Not even a start-up logo or something.

I only had this laptop for about 3 months, and looking at the other threads, it might be a hard drive failure problem. I could return it to HP, but was just wondering if any good soul around here could help me one last time to revive it without the need of sending it over to HP.

Thank you.

Did you run a BIOS update, because it wouldn't restart into one. What exactly did the screen say that made you think it was a BIOS update being done without running it yourself (unheard of).

What LED light is blinking nonstop?

Can you boot into HP Factory Recovery: HP Recover Windows 7 Operating System Using HP Recovery - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

You can try these steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot which will tell you if you can boot a disk to do repairs. If so besides links to the Win7 installer to use for repairs, there are also links to HD and RAM bootable CD tests to check your hardware.

But if this cannot get traction quickly what I would do with such a new rig is call HP Tech Support and have them walk you through steps to determine if it should be returned or if there is a known issue.

thank you for the quick reply.

I am such a noob with computers, but all I can remember was I was using the laptop as normal, then it crashed, so I had to restart it. I remember having the blue screen of choosing safe mode, normal mode, etc., but I chose normal mode, thinking it was just a normal crash (overuse or something). I don't remember authorizing an update (or maybe I did, without thinking). It just went into BIOS update (I assumed it was a BIOS update, since it said right there, Verifying your BIOS update and all that.

The caps lock button light is blinking non-stop. I hear beeps, but very faint.

The HP recovery, I can't get into, since 1) I can't get to Windows at all (black screen), 2) f11 does not work.

I'm trying to do the other solution you suggested: Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot right now.

You want to try to get the HP ESC button to work to boot the disks needed for the steps. 90% of the time the key is not being tapped correctly to trigger the Boot Menu to choose boot media.

If it cannot boot into disks to disinfect, repair, rescue files, etc., then try resetting the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS .

Remember that you're under full factory warranty with tech support so at any time you can call HP to get them involved since it may end up needing servicing. If you do too much they might not be as ready to help. I wouldn't tell them anything you've done if so, just that it won't boot.

hi gregrocker, I tried doing the esc button thing too. But not working. I tried following the other solution, but I can't get my laptop to boot from the CD with the ISO file.

And calling HP right now. On the hold, since the operator said it's a hardware problem. I was thinking of telling them what to do, but they didn't ask a while ago, so I didn't. Good thing I didn't say and they didn't ask. I told them it just won't boot.

Thanks a lot!
