I haven't seen the movie, but I have to agree with you.
Now it looks like you made me really curious to see what that movie is all about....

Hi all,
After about 1.5 years being frustrated by the new status bar behavior, I found this thread (and others) and saw a lot of other people frustrated by it as well.
So, since I am a software developer, I went and wrote a simple explorer extension to make the status bar show the file size, similar to how it did before. It is quite simple and does nothing except this one feature. If there is enough interest in it, I will publish it somewhere with source code, so anybody else can go ahead and make it more interesting if they want.
Please let me know if you are interested and I will get it uploaded.
Thanks,
Chris
I am also interested in a solution! Please post.
MANY THANKS in advance if you do so!
Hi all,
As promised, I got the code cleaned up and posted onto google code. There is also a binary installer for those who are unable to compile it themselves. I have only tested it on a 64-bit US-English Windows 7 Professional SP1. It should work just fine on 32-bit systems as well. If you have issues please feel free to comment here or on the google code project page and I will do my best to help.
file-size - Windows 7 shell extension to show the size of the selected file(s) on the status bar. - Google Project Hosting
Thanks,
Chris
Thanks Chris for posting.
However when I install it (Win 7 Ultimate 64Bit Edition) I get the error
"Unable to register DLL/OCX: RegSvr32 failed with exit Code 0x3"
Any idea what is going wrong?
Hi marwerno,
Thanks for reporting this issue. I think I fixed the problem and have posted an updated version of everything on the google code project page. Please try again and let me know if you run into any further problems. Note that you may have to uninstall the old version first, and you may need to reboot your PC in-between the uninstall/reinstall.
Thanks,
Chris
just installed (on 32-bit). no problems so far. thanks :)
