    Boot failure all of a sudden!


    Hi all,
    Last night I shut down my system as usually. It said it was going to install some up-dates and not to turn off the power (I didn't power it off). I turned on the system this morning, and it said it had to config the new up-date, so I let it do it's thing. When it restarted it wouldn't boot. It powers on and goes to my MB splash screen, and I can't do anything from there. I can't get into the BIOS or recovery options, because my keyboard doesn't power on.

    Try pressing tab at the very moment you see your BIOS splash screen. This will show information of what the computer is doing, normally covered by the splash screen.

    I was able to get to post screen to come up. It shows some of the system specs and memory test as ok, but nothing else. At the bottom of the screen it shows how to get into my BIOS (DEL), XpressRecovery2 (F9), Boot Menu (F12) and a couple others. I can't seem to get into any of them because to keyboard doesn't power up.

    Is the keyboard wired or wireless? If it is wireless, try using a wired one and see if it is recognized by the system.

    I speak from personal experience when I say that some usb keyboards just act different than others. My Microsoft keyboard just didn't work during the boot process at first, but after trying a different one, it came back to life.

    Using an other keyboard might just get you into bios, which is a big step at this moment.

    Sorry for not getting back sooner, but I've been working. I haven't had a chance to do much in regards to my booting issue.

    @ Greg, I've attempted to work through the tut you linked, but since I can't get into the BIOS no matter which method I try. I just can't get any media to boot. I'm starting to think the MB is taking a dump on me. None of my rear I/O seem to work, the front USB's don't even seem to work. My Ethernet connection doesn't light-up, but the system powers-up, fans come on ect.... I've check all the connection, and I'll try a couple other fixes, but I may have to order another MB.

    As long as you're sure you've tried booting correctly then you may indeed have a hardware problem. Most times failure of disk media to boot falls to user error or fluke. You can write the latest installer ISO to flash stick from here to try booting it to repair or reinstall.

    If you want to try to force repair or reinstall to see if you can overcome this blockage, you can run free Partition Wizard bootable CD which will autostart without user input, confirm Win7 or it's 100mb System Reserved partition are marked Active, click on HD # to highlight it, then from Disk tab select Rebuild MBR, OK, apply, reboot.

    If Win7 fails to start you can autostart PW CD or Darik's Boot and Nuke to wipe the HD, which will in turn force the Win7 installer to autostart to try Clean Reinstall.

    If you have files to rescue then autostart Paragon rescue disk to recover data .
