    Gene24, because of the errors you've run across, I think I would first verify your hardware is in working order before buying Windows again. Can you download files and burn CD/DVD's or write to a USB flash drive?

    And before purchasing anything, you may want to download the iso from the link that Ztruker posted, burn it and try to do a Startup Repair using that.

    Sounds good, I can use my desktop to burn some cd's. What are some good hardware test tools to download? (Free preferably)

    HD testing:

    SeaTools | Seagate

    Better to use the diagnostics available from your drive manufacturer, but SeaTools is recognized by most folks as one of the better to use in a "universal" manner (even by some of the manufacturers).

    Doesn't have to be a working OS, just one that the installer can verify is a valid upgradeable OS.
    Also, you can do a clean install with a upgrade version: Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version
