Cant Print from lap top directly connected by cable? Please Help.

Wow, I typed a message and it disappeared. I will try again. My printer connected to a Dynex modem quit. I plugged the printer into my lap top with a cable from the printer. The lap top can't find the printer plugged into the cable. Can someone help me please.

Yes. But the lap top cant find the printer connected to the cable. I think the modem quit working because the Xt it is connected to shows it keeps trying to get the address from the printer. So I plugged it into the lap top directly by cable from the printer but it cant print.

What type of cable did you connect the PC to printer with?
    USB, LAN, or something else?
How was the printer connected to the modem (USB, LAN, wireless, ...) ?

What is the make and model # of your printer and modem?
You should add the model # of your laptop to your specs.

Have you tried rebooting the modem, printer, and pc?

What do you see for "Devices and Printers"?
It might help the experts here if you post a screen print for this.

Your 2nd post says "I think the modem quit working because the Xt it is connected to shows it keeps trying to get the address from the printer."
    What is "the Xt"?
Does the network connection still work using this modem?

I'm no expert at SF, but if i had this issue, i would give details for all of this...

You typed a message and it disappeared.
Was that a Seven Forums message that disappeared...and you figured out how to post the message?
If the SF message disappeared, this tutorial should help learning/using SF.

    Also,
What did you do just before the problem started...install updates, new programs, make system changes, ...?
Do you have a restore point and/or backup image from before the problem started?

    hope this helps,
    David
