All .chm shows Navigation to the webpage was canceled

All of a sudden all my .chm files are not showing any content. I only get Navigation to the webpage was canceled

I can't think of any software that I have installed since it worked and now.

I do have automatic windows update, so all updates are installed.

It doesn't matter where the .chm file is located. Most of them are in My Documents.

I have done everything that is suggested on this web page
Why My CHM File is not Displayed Correctly

    Any ideas?

See here: Default File Type Associations - Restore

Read the directions then scroll down to .chm.

    Hello Ztruker,

I followed the directions, rebooted, but it didn't change anything...

    Any other idea?

How does it behave if you boot to Safe Mode with Networking? If better then something is starting at boot that is causing the problem.

    Advanced startup options - XP
    Advanced startup options - Vista
Advanced startup options - Windows 7

Use msconfig to determine what is causing the problem

These are good tutorials on using msconfig in XP, Vista or Windows 7:
How to use msconfig in Windows XP
How to use msconfig in Windows Vista
How to use msconfig in Windows 7

Click on Start then Run, type msconfig and press Enter.
Click on the Startup tab, record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Reboot and see if it runs better.
If yes then use msconfig to enable several items at a time till you find the culprit.

If no, start msconfig and click on the Services tab.
Check the Hide All Microsoft Services box, record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Again, do a regular boot, see if it runs normal.
If yes then use msconfig to enable services till you find the culprit.

Once you've found the culprit, uninstall it or find out how to eliminate it from your system. Simply disabling it in msconfig is a temporary fix at best.
    Enable everything else you disabled.

Tried all of your suggestions, but I still get: Navigation to the webpage was canceled

So it's not any service or startup application, which lead us to Windows 7 it self!

    Ideas?

    Done that! No change...

How does Sharing Folders affect this?
I do share a specific folder under My Document, but it's not there where the .chm files are located.

Can C: be a network drive?
How can I check which drives are network drives?

    Yiipie!

    The problem is fixed!
I found a diagnostics program called MJsDiags and after running this everything works again!
The only thing I can see it did was that it registered three dll files
    C:\Windows\system32\hhctrl.ocx
    C:\Windows\system32\itss.dll
    C:\Windows\system32\itircl.dll

The software can be downloaded here:
    HTML Help Diagnostics

Thank you for all your help!

Hi, need help, when I click to open a e-book, this e-book try to connect to a server of the e-book and shows "Navigation to the web page was cancelled". I think is because of the Group Policy of my Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit, I tried to unblock, and the program that the member andis59 suggest, disable firewall and anti-virus at the same time, but nothing works, there is a link in this forum that is a Group policy Search but I donīt Know where to start.

    Any suggestions? Thx
